Holy Savior Catholic Church

Ministries
and Organizations
The Pastoral
Council: This is composed of elected members. It meets
once a month. Its purpose is to be a consultative body to the
Pastor and also to be involved in the pastoral life of the church.
The council helps direct the activity of the community in such areas as
liturgy, religious education, community affairs, the school board,
census
taking, social ministry, youth ministry and vocation promotion.
Administration
and Finance: The Holy Savior Finance Council has jurisdiction
over the material concerns of the parish. The council is
responsible for church receipts and income, the budget, salaries,
insurance, construction, maintenance of buildings and the
cemetery. The council consists of several parishioners and the
Pastor, who has final authority over all decisions.
Holy Savior
School: As part of the evangelization mission of the Church,
its purpose is to educate our children. Grades K-8 are taught by
fully qualified and certified teachers, in a full range of subjects,
including music, computer skills, and library skills. Nursery
classes for 3 and 4 year olds meet Louisiana State standards. A
continuing care program is available before and after school for Holy

Altar
Servers:
The ministry is open to all youth starting with 3rd
graders that have received the Sacrament of Eucharist and are willing to assist the celebrant at Mass. Being an
Altar Server provides the young participant with a sense of
responsibility, dedication and reverence.
Lectors:
The
presence of God is manifested to us in many ways. Within the Mass,
He becomes present to us in the proclamation of the Word.
Parishioners are asked to share in the celebration by volunteering to
Lector during Mass. Participation requires that one avail
themselves to minimal training, as well as a commitment to the schedule
of Masses.
Extraordinary
Ministers of the Eucharist: Extraordinary Ministers
of the Eucharist are appointed by the Pastor
to aid in the pastoral care of the Parish. Eucharistic Ministers
distribute Holy Communion at Mass, or to shut-ins and or in the
hospital. Several training sessions are conducted. As with
all ministries, all are asked to commit themselves to the assigned
schedule.
Liturgy
Committee: Liturgy is worship. Here at Holy Savior much
attention is given to the planning and execution of Liturgy. The
Committee meets many times a year to plan Liturgical Celebrations.
Ushers:
These
men have traditionally collected the money and directed the seating of
the congregation during Mass. Participants must be willing to
serve by schedule on a rotating basis.
Vacation Bible
School: The Bible Study
School is a week-long camp held in the
summer months. The camp consists of prayer, song, story reading,
study, refreshments, and fun.

Christian Initiation of Adults:
The aim of RCIA is to guide
interested non-Catholics through a process of initiation into the
Faith. Also available for our Catholic Adults - Reconciliation,
Eucharist, and Confirmation.
Cursillo:
The Cursillo movement is an evangelization weekend. It is a
life-changing experience, offering participants an opportunity of
conversion of heart. The weekend is followed up by
"Ultreya" which are weekly meetings to support each other.
Altar
Society: The members of the Altar Society might be called God's
own housekeepers. The mission of the Society is to prepare the
sanctuary and sacristy for the celebration of Mass. Members clean
and dress the altar with fresh altar cloths and clean the sacred
vessels. Additionally, they see to it that flowers and candles are
in place for Mass. For special seasons such as Christmas and
Easter, they help to decorate the Church.
Pro-Life
Committee: The purpose of this committee is to instill with
our parishioners the awareness that all life is precious, particularly
of the unborn. Their efforts are directed AGAINST the
practice of abortion.
Hospitality
Committee: The ministry's mission is to facilitate any
function which involves hospitality by our church, such as, welcoming
visiting Church Officials, hosting Church gatherings and catering
certain functions. Refreshments are also prepared and served after
special Parish Liturgies, such as First Communion, Confirmation, and
Central Lafourche High School Graduation.
Social
Ministry: Helping others is the basic goal of the Social
Ministry. The ministry is defined as responding in an organized
way to individual human needs. It prepares food for parishioner's
funerals. This ministry also sends cards to our parishioners who
are elderly or homebound on special occasions.
Music/Cantor-Commentator:
Our Church through its vitalized program is promoting music as an
opportunity for bringing the youth and adults into closer contact with
religion. Music is selected in keeping with the theme of the
particular liturgy of the day. Organist and song leaders or choirs
work cooperatively to achieve a message in every service. The
Cantor/Commentator volunteers read the special introduction to the Mass
